Activities at the Haven Church

The Haven Church provides a range of activities for the benefit of the community. Everyone is welcome to participate.

Once a month there is a drop-in where those attending help make and prepare items for the village’s shoebox collection for Operation Christmas Child organised by charity Samaritan’s Purse. In 2022 326 shoeboxes were sent from Gorran Haven to needy children in eastern Europe and central Asia. We also have a special service to send the shoeboxes on their way and learn more about the impact they have on arrival.

The Haven Church also runs a baby and toddler group on a Friday morning during school term time. Parents and carers stay with their charges and enjoy some refreshment and conversation whilst there are a range of stimulating play and activity for the youngsters.

The Haven Church also runs a monthly Bible discussion group for women. There are also men’s meals and men’s breakfasts held through the year. We also mark events of local and national significance such as Remembrance Sunday, Royal Jubilees and the Coronation. Indeed, the church provided all the virtual VE75 Celebrations for the village during the pandemic lockdown.  We have also held craft events and church barbeques.

Many of the activities are provided free of charge and provide a way to meet and make new friends and enter into new aspects of life in the village. Whichever activity or service you join in with you are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome. For more details on the activities of Haven Church visit their website here.

More About the Haven Church Gorran Haven

As a church we aim to be:
•    Growing as a church, both spiritually and numerically
•    Sharing the Good News of Jesus with everyone without discrimination
•    Engaging with the local community in a variety of ways
•    Supporting and assisting those families and individuals who are in need
•    Teaching the Bible clearly, accurately and relevantly
•    Partnering and supporting our church plant in Funchal, Madeira

Our mission is to share the love of Jesus with the community around us in both word and practical action. We aim to be a force for God’s goodness in our world simply because we have ourselves experienced the grace and kindness of a loving God. We are flawed, imperfect people who are being changed by the transforming power of the gospel.

We are a work in progress but have found an anchor in life’s uncertain sea. Just like a ship, a church needs an anchor.  That anchor has to be secure and certain – unaffected by time or fashion.  Since the formation of Haven Church in the last century, its anchor remains unchanged.

The basis upon which this church stands is contained in the Bible, which is the clear and final authority for faith, doctrine and conduct. In the early 1970s, Haven Church freed itself from any denominational bias.  A small pastoral oversight committee now administers the church and all maintenance and development costs are largely financed internally.
